I never expected a sea day shuffleboard tournament to introduce me to my new best friend—or teach me that sometimes the best connections happen when you're not looking for them.

I'm not going to lie—I almost didn't go to the shuffleboard tournament on day three of my Marina cruise. I'd spent the morning getting a massage at the Canyon Ranch Spa, grabbed a leisurely lunch at the Terrace Café, and was planning to spend the sea day doing absolutely nothing productive. But my cabin mate Sarah had signed us up before I could protest, and she gave me that look that said I wasn't getting out of it.
