I came to Juneau for the whales. I left with a full heart, fresh salmon in my belly, and a friendship I never expected.
The alarm on my phone went off at 5:47 AM, thirteen minutes before I actually needed to wake up. I'd set it that way intentionally—a little buffer to ease into consciousness before the big day. Through the porthole of my cabin on the Resilient Lady, I could already see Juneau emerging from the morning mist like something out of a painting. Mountains jutting straight up from the water, glaciers gleaming in the early light, and this palpable sense that something wild and beautiful was about to happen.
