My embarkation day turned into a comedy of errors when my luggage vanished and I was accidentally upgraded to the Captain's Suite on Carnival Celebration.

I should've known something was off when I arrived at the terminal and the Carnival Celebration was literally the biggest thing I'd ever seen in person. Like, I knew it was going to be big—I'd seen pictures—but pictures don't prepare you for that moment when you're standing in front of what is essentially a floating city. My excitement lasted about forty-five minutes before everything went sideways. The embarkation process started normally enough. I checked in, got my SeaPass card, and headed toward security feeling like a cruise veteran even though this was my first time. That's when I made my first mistake: I trusted that my luggage would magically appear in my cabin. Spoiler alert: it did not.
