I thought a sea day meant relaxation, but it took hitting my breaking point to actually understand what unplugging really means.
I've been on seven cruises. Seven. And somehow, I'm just now figuring out how to actually take a sea day. It started like most of my cruises do—with good intentions that immediately crumbled. We were two days into our Mediterranean voyage on the Marina, and I'd promised myself this trip would be different. No work emails. No checking the news every five minutes. No stress. Just me, the ocean, and whatever the Oceania Cruises experience had to offer. Except I was still checking my phone at breakfast. There's something about sea days that feels almost dangerous when you're someone like me. When you're docked in Barcelona or Athens, there's an urgency to explore, to maximize the experience, to capture every moment for Instagram. But on a sea day? You're floating in the middle of nowhere, which somehow makes your phone feel even more important. Like it's the only thing tethering you to civilization.
