What to Pack for a Cruise: The Only List You Actually Need

Most cruise packing guides are bloated with things you'll never use. This is the stripped-down, actually useful list — what to bring, what to skip, and what to buy onboard if you forget.

Packing for a cruise is genuinely different from packing for a hotel vacation. You have a tiny cabin, limited storage, formal nights (sometimes), multiple climates (often), and no hardware store nearby if you forget something important. Here's what actually matters. Documents and Essentials (Don't Leave Without These) Passport — even if your cruise is domestic, a passport is always smarter than a birth certificate. Keep it in your carry-on, never in checked luggage. Cruise confirmation and boarding pass — printed copies, not just phone screenshots. Ports sometimes have patchy cell service. Travel insurance information — policy number and emergency contact. More important than most people think.
